Conquer the Coast kickoff: 7/30/2009
STARRS cyclists kicked off training for Conquer the Coast with the presentation of checks to the Tarpon Foundation and the Corpus Christi Chamber Foundation. Then they dedicated their Wednesday night ride to Barb Savell and her recovery.

Prayer ride for Barb Savell: 7/16/2009
120 cyclists began their Wednesday Night Ride with a special show of support for Barb Savell, a STARRS member who was critically injured in a hit-and-run collision with a pickup truck. Cyclists rode to Swantner Park, the location of the collision, where they joined Corpus Christi Roadrunners and community members to pray for Barb's recovery.

Don Winkley, ultra runner: 7/9/2009
Our own ultra-running member, Don Winkley, was featured on KRIS news. Among Don's lengthy and impressive list of achievements, he recently became the oldest first-time runner to finish the legendary 89k Comrades race in South Africa. Not only did Don finish, he beat the holy grail of 11 hours, which earns him bragging rights throughout South Africa and the world.

STARRS donates trees: 1/13/2009
STARRS held a ribbon-cutting ceremony to officially welcome a grove of mesquite trees planted in Cole Park. Money for the trees and their planting was donated by the STARR Trek Triathlon, to help offset the event's environmental impact, and through sponsorship from Gill Landscape Nursery.

Bike giveaway: 12/20/2008
Each year, the STARRS bike giveaway brightens Christmas for dozens of needy local children. For Christmas 1998, STARRS came through again, raising enough money to donate 100 bicycles and helmets to area children. STARRS members volunteer to transport the bikes and help the children, and Bay Area Bicycles is on hand to make sure the bikes are properly fitted to each child. In the 5 years that STARRS has done a bike giveaway, STARRS has given away 380 bikes.

STARR Trek: 8/25/2008
The STARR Trek mini sprint and kids triathlon has helped hundreds of kids and adults learn the ropes of triathlon. Offering clinics and training classes beforehand, plus plenty of support on race day, this is truly a first-class event, building athletes' confidence and helping them succeed. The event also raises money for children's charities and collegiate athletes.
